Mitchell, Eardley Wilmot
4 July 1813 – 13 November 1885
Vicar of Shirley between 1847 and 1872. Born in Essex. Married Catherine in 1841. Sold-up with an auction in 1871.Son of a banker and educated at Eton. After gaining a 1st in law he was a 2nd Lieut. in the Bengal Artillery. After being ordained in 1837 he held positions a Lymington and Exeter before moving to Shirley. Author of several religious pamphlets, he died in Walmer, Kent.

| 1857 | The service on the 6th May was where the new organ, by Holdich, London, was played. The collection of £4 1s. 4d. from one service was donated to the Indian Relief Fund. |
| 1859 | He was a member of the Osmaston Manor Garden Society committee. |
| 1860 | Offered prayers and the benediction at the laying of the foundation stone, by Francis Wright, for the new tower. At that point there was a shortfall of £100 for which he was liable. |
| 1861 | January saw several children and Mrs Michell pass out during a service due to a build-up of fumes in the underfloor boiler flue. He contributed £50 toward the new church tower opened that year. In July, the Sunday school and Band of Hope had their annual treat in the grounds of the vicarage where school prizes were distributed, games were played and tea and plum cake was consumed. |
| 1863 | 160 children had tea and 70 adults supper at the vicarage to celebrate the marriage of the Prince of Wales. |
| 1864 | His only daughter Honora died at Teignmouth. |
| 1871 | Oliver & Newbold were instructed to sell by auction the household furniture and effects. |
Although he had left the parish, he was involved in the restoration of the south aisle in 1883.
