Shirley Brass Band
The Derby Mercury of 5th, September, 1877 reported that the band, under the leadership of bandmaster Davies, played at a Sunday school sports evening at Brailsford.In 1881 the Mercury reported the the band headed a procession to Brailsford church and later played on the lawn of Brailsford Hall.
In 1882 the band headed a procession of the Longford Friendly Society from the clubroom to the Church.
They took part in a brass band competition at Tibshelf in 1883. They were unplaced.
Still going in 1919, they played at the Garden fete.
