A presentation supper was given on Friday, September 26, to Mr. Davis, on his leaving Shirley School, he having filled the situation of school master for three years. After the cloth was removed, Mr Williams of Shirley, was voted to the chair, and Quartermaster-Sergeant Hall, of Ashborne, to the vice chair (Mr. Davis being a volunteer).— Mr Jno. Dakin, on behalf of the Shirley Brass Band (which was of Mr. Davis's own formation) presented him with a fine meerschaum pipe silver mounted with inscription.— About 42 sat down to supper, which was provided by Mr. Twigg.
