South Devon Heifer and Calf £207 at Shirley Sale
£160 topped the sale at Wormsley Farm, Shirley, near Ashbourne on February 16th on behalf of Messrs. N . E. and H. M. Cholerton who are giving up milk production. The sale comprised 36 Jersey, Guersey and South Devon cattle.
   A tremendous level of trade ruled throughout before many buyers from a wide area of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire and Leicestershire.
   Top price of the day, £160, was paid for a pure-bred South Devon heifer which was in-milk and served December. Her heifer calf realised £47. Another December served in-milk South Devon heifer realised £118 with others at £105 and £104 and the four heifers catalogued averaged £121.75.
   Guernsey newly-calved cows sold to £85 with Jersey newly-calved cows at £76 and down-calving Jerseys to £76.
   Jersey served heifers sold to £44 and South Devon reared calves to £47 (2) and £46.
   Bagshaws of Uttoxeter were the auctioneers.
