Derby Mercury - 2 February 1776
DERBY, FEBRUARY 8.
We are informed that on Friday night last, between 6 and 7 o'clock, a breeches-maker, named Fernyhough, returning from our market to Ashbourne, was stopped on Shirley Common by two footpads; but telling them he had only ten pence in his pocket, they refused taking it, and let him pass on.— Soon after which they stopped a farmer near the same place, from whom they took a Guinea and Half a Crown.
