CASUALTIES TO OSMASTON-BY-ASHBOURNE SOLDIERS
The sad news has reached Osmaston-by-Ashbourne that Private H. Moorhouse, Royal Scots Regiment, fosters on of Mr. & Mrs. G. Coxon, of Shirley, late of Osmaston, was killed in action in France last Sunday week. A very interesting letter from the brave soldier, who was a great favourite with all who knew him, appeared in these columns a few weeks ago. Rifleman F. Allen, King's Royal Rifles, has been wounded in four places, while engaged in bomb throwing in the same battle as Private H. Moorhouse met his death. Up to now, he seems to have had a charmed life, having been in the trenches since last January, and having hitherto only been slightly wounded. He is now at a hospital for wounded soldiers at Middlewich. Private H. Williamson, Royal Scots, was also in the same charge as Private Moorhouse and was wounded slightly in the heel by shrapnel. Sergeant Brownson, of the Derbyshire Yeomanry, is lying ill in hospital at Cairo, suffering from malaria. Private W. Roe, Derbyshire Yeomanry, has been removed to the Island of Cyprus, suffering from the same disease. Pte. W. Fielding, Derbyshire Yeomanry, is in Cairo, having also been down with malaria, but we are pleased to hear he is now convalescent.
