SHIRLEY
As there has not yet been an appointment to the living of Shirley, the Easter services were taken by neighbouring clergymen, that on Good Friday by the Rev. A. B. Bater, B.A., of the Training College, Derby; and those on Easter Day were conducted by the Rev. D. C. Cochrane, M.A., of Etwall. On Good Friday, the choir rendered Stainer's "God so loved the world" (Crucifixion), and on Sunday the Rev E. Hall's "This is the day," an anthem admirably suited to the festive character of the day.
The vestry meeting was held in the school on Easter Monday evening, and was fairly well attended. In the absence of a vicar, Mr. E. Bainbrigge was voted to the chair. Business was of a routine character. Mr. G. Frost was re-appointed people's warden, and it was decided that Mr. W. Wheeldon would continue to act as vicar's warden, this being his 16th year in office. The church accounts were submitted to the meeting, and passed, a balance in hand of £5 being regarded as very satisfactory.
