SHIRLEY.
CHURCHWARDENS.— Messrs. P. Lemon and William Maskrey have been elected churhwardens, and Messrs. J. Jackson and Bainbrigge lay representatives, for the ensuing year.C.E.T.S AND BLUE RIBBON MEETING.— A successful meeting was held in the school-room, on Thursday, May 1, in support of temperance principles. Addresses full of life and vigour were give by Messrs. Hood, Ball, Insley, and other members of the Ashbourne Blue Ribbon Society. The vicar occupied the chair, and stated that everyone in Shirley would be willing to give a hearty welcome to those gentlemen who had come such a long distance with the single object of doing good to others. Temperance men had no desire to force their opinions upon others, but it was the duty of every Christian man to face the evils of intemperance, and to try and find some means of putting a stop to those evils.
