TWIGGE AND WIFE AGAINST WIBBERLEY
TO THE EDITOR OF THE DERBYSHIRE ADVERTISER
Sir,— Will you please contradict the apology given in the Mercury this morning in an action against myself by William Twigge, of Shirley, and Charlotte, his wife, for an alleged slander. I can only say that I consider that I was misled by Serjeant Hayes and my attorney, and that I never agreed to any apology whatever, but merely acting under the advice of my counsel to consent to 40s. damages, that he would intimate to the plaintiff's counsel that what had been said there was no harm in. At the same time, I fully consider that the action ought to have gone to trial fairly, and have tested the merits of the case as it stood, which would have been done but for Serjeant Hayes advising me differently. And at the same time, I wish to convey to the minds public emphatically that I never agreed to any apology, nor now think anything of the kind is necessary.TWIGGE AND WIFE AGAINST WIBBERLEY
