SHIRLEY.— On Monday evening, Dec. 28th, the poor women of Shirley were assembled at the Vicarage house, and regaled with an excellent supper. On Tuesday evening, Dec. 29th, the children belonging to the Sunday and day schools were assembled at the same place and partook of a bountiful tea. On Wednesday evening, Dec. 30th, the farmers' wives and daughters met, and had tea together. On Thursday evening, Dec. 31st, the farmers assembled, and we're refreshed with the good "Old English fayre," roast beef and plum pudding. And on Friday evening, Jan 1st. the poor men were called together, and treated with an excellent supper.© British Newspaper Archive
