Fatal Accident. —On Saturday afternoon a young man named William Cresswell, met with a fatal accident at Mackworth. The the son of Mr. Cresswell, farmer, of Shirley, and Saturday morning proceeded to Derby in cart to fetch several bags of grain. As he was returning home through Mackworth fell off the cart on to the road. He was picked in unconscious condition and put in a conveyance with the intention of taking him to the Derbyshire Infirmary, but shortly after the commencement of the journey he expired. At the inquest on the body held by Mr. Sale, at the Mundy Arms, on Tuesday, it was proved that death resulted from dislocation of the neck, and a verdict of Accidental Death was returned.© British Newspaper Archive
