ASHBOURNE
CHEESE FAIR.— The first of the new cheese fairs established in this town was held on Tuesday. There was a large attendance of factors and dealers; the supply of cheese was but moderate. The average price obtained was about 47s. per cwt. Fifty shillings was offered for a prime dairy belonging to Mr. Goodall, of Shirley, but refused. Mr Hodgkinson, of Cubley, obtained 52s., which we believe was the highest price. We have every reason to believe both factor and farmer will be benefitted by the establishment of the additional cheese fairs; but, it must be confessed, the latter class are slow to appreciate what appears to to their advantage.
