Derby Mercury - 28 January 1790

NEW BRIDGE
ANY person inclined to contract for building a CARRIAGE BRIDGE, with one arch only, over Shirley-brook about three miles from Ashborne on the turnpike road leading toward Derby; may send a plan and proposals in writing, before the 27th of February next, to Mr. FRANCES BERESFORD's office in Ashborne.
The span of the arch to be 24 feet, and the height, from the surface of the water to the underside of the arch, 12 feet, the bridge to be a proper width for two carriages to pass, and each end to be continued, so as to fall into the road upon a level with top top of the centre of the arch when properly gravelled.
