DEATH OF A SHIRLEY SOLDIER.
The toll of the war has not ended with the signing of the armistice, and regret to have to record the loss of yet another Shirley soldier. Private T. W. Chadwick, who died of pneumonia in a military hospital in Belgium on January 23th. The first news of his illness was conveyed to his wife in a letter from the sister-ln-charge. who stated that had been admitted into the hospital on January 13th, and was eriously ill. Subsequent reports were far from reassuring, and a kind and sympathetic letter written the chaplain on Jan. 27th announced that had passed away, and that be had been interred in the cemetery at Charleroi. Private W. Chadwick, who was 25 years of age, much respected as a steady, industrious young man, and before joining Army he was employed Longford Hall. He joined, the Notts and Derby Regiment April. 1916, and two months later was drafted to France, being subsequently transferred to the Labour Corps. He was in the trenches during the German offensive in March. 1918, but during tbe whole time of his service in the Army he had never been wounded. His death seems doubly sad, occurring it did the time when his family were daily expecting to hear of his demobilisation and deep sympathy is felt for his widow and young child and also for his parents, who reside Peat Hayes, Shirley.
