Derby Mercury, May 18, 1892

ASSAULT.— William Dakin, of Shirley Common, farmer was charged with beating his servant, a young girl named Edith Grime.— Mr. Matthews (Bamford and Matthews) appeared to defend, and stated that his client admitted a technical assault, but did not hurt the complainant.— The girl being called stated she was engaged by the defendant as servant. On the 4th May the defendant came into the house early in the morning, and after making some remarks, he kicked her twice and hurt her.— After further examination the bench imposed a penalty of 5s. and 16s. 6d. costs.
