Derby Mercury 19 Aug 1863

SHIRLEY. The quiet little village of Shirley was thrown into a state of great alarm, on the 7th inst., by the announcement that a woman, named Hannah Bloor, had concealed the birth of her illegitimate child, between the hours of 12 p.m. and 1 a.m., on the above day. No satisfactory evidence was produced before the coroner, and this verdict was returned, "That the deceased, a new born female child, breathed, but whether it was born alive, or by what means it came to its death, no satisfactory evidence appears."
