Derby Mercury, June 5, 1822, Issue 4691.
We are sorry to communicate the particulars of a fatal accident which happened on Friday last at Cubley, in this county.— A dog trainer by the name of Edward Jackson having occasion for his gun, sent a boy for it from Cubley to his house at Shirley, cautioning him to be careful, as it was loaded.— The boy accordingly went and received the gun from Jackson's wife who likewise told him it was loaded.— the boy drew the charge but soon after, proud of carrying a loaded gun, returned the charge and in his way played with, and pointed it at several objects. Coming into the village of Cubley thus imprudently amusing himself, the gun went off and wounded three children, one of them a girl aged five years, daughter of Joseph Bull of that place, mortally. The two others were much hurt, but are happy to say, considered out of danger.— A coroner's inquest has been taken on view of the body the girl— Verdict Accidental"Births, Deaths, Marriages and Obituaries."
