The Derby Mercury reports the death of Mrs. Morley of Shirley Brook, aged 84.
1841 census
The Morley household consisted of Joseph (72), William (59) and Ann Morley (27) with Thomas Taylor (18) and Ann Derbyshire (14) as servants.
1844
John marries Elizabeth Meakin at Spondon. Joseph is killed when the Longford – Ashbourne omnibus overturns and crushes him.
1851 census
In 1851 John (34) and Elizabeth (27) were farming 132 acres at Shirley Brook. Also with them were their children Mary (4) and Selina (8 months). His siblings Ann (37) and William (28), the latter a house servant, were listed on the census.
The following were all house servants: Elizabeth Redget (18), George Hulland (25) and Charles Bale (18).
1855
John (jnr) was born. Died the following May.
1858
Charles Maskery who had worked for them for thirty years died.
1859
The livestock was sold.
1871
They had decamped to Yeaveley where he's described as a tea dealer.
