The Old Post Office (Building)

Former post office and bakery. Now a private dwelling and part of the Walker-Okeover estate.

Wright's 1874 states that the wall letter box is cleared at 6pm and delivered at 7.30. Nearest money order and telegraph office was Brailsford.

Kelly's 1895 says letters arrive from derby via Brailsford at 8.30am and dispatched at 5.30pm weekdays only. Postal orders were issued but not paid. Osmaston was the nearest money order and telegraph office. Thomas William Strong was the sub-postmaster.

In 1912 David Rushton was the sub-postmaster.

In 2017, the bakery building (see photograph), on Church Lane, was re-roofed.
