Charles Walker, farmer, Shirley Lodge (Household)

A farmer of 100 acres at Shirley Lodge. The 1841 census has Charles (35), farmer, Ann (25), Joseph (10 months) and Mary (2).

In January 1842 both Joseph and Mary die.

In 1845 Ann dies aged 29 and Charles marries Elizabeth Beeston.

The 1851 census confirms his residence at Shirley Lodge and that 100 acres were being farmed. The household consisted of Charles, his wife Elizabeth, Susannah Ratcliff (house servant), Mary Maskery (house servant), James Udale (farm servant) and Frederic Jackson (farm servant).

By the 1861 census Charles is now farming 170 acres with Elizabeth. Susannah Ratcliff is still with them as are farm servants Joseph Ma[?]sey and Joseph Allsop.

Charles dies in 1869.

Sold up 1870/1.

Elizabeth dies in 1885.
